HivePals Privacy Policy

Apr 1, 2009

This Privacy Policy applies to all Hive websites (e.g. HivePals, HiveDates and HiveMoms, collectively "the Websites") owned or controlled by HivePals, Inc. ("HiveCo"). It covers information collected at the Websites, including information provided by or pertaining to activities of members of the Websites ("Members") and non-member visitors to the Websites ("Visitors"). The term "HivePals" can be read interchangeably with "HiveDates" and "HiveMoms".

    LEVELS OF ACCESS/PRIVACY

    1. The private portion of your Profile Information stored in MyHive.
    2. The password-protected MyHive webpages that you have customized.
    1. The contents of your Public Profile page, including:
      1. Your gender, age range, Blush level (as defined on the Websites), and other optional profile information that you have provided.
      2. The Personality Snapshot and Text Feedback about you, which were compiled based on the opinions provided by other Members.
    1. Your username and photograph.
    2. The contents on public hiveblogs, where the hiveblogger has elected not to restrict access to selected Members only. This includes aggregate information about hiveblog activity such as total number of views, number of members, most recent activity recorded etc.
    3. Event Showcases that are posted on public hiveblogs.
    1. If a Member (the "Host") sends an invitation to another Member (the "Guest"), then the Host's real first name will be displayed in the invitation email/message to the Guest. Upon the acceptance of the invitation, the real first name of the Guest will be displayed on the Event Profile, where it can be viewed by the Host and all other Guest(s), if any, who have accepted an invitation to the Event. The same applies if there are multiple Guests, such that all event participants will see each other's real first names.
    2. After the event, when providing feedback for each other, a Member may elect to share part of or all of his private contact information (including real full name) with another Member.
    3. A hiveblogger can create a private hiveblog. He can restrict access to this private hiveblog to Members whom he has placed into a named folder within My Pals.
    4. If you have elected to be listed on eDirectory, a Member who knows your real first and/or last name can find your Profile by using either or both names to carry out the "Search by Name" function that appears under the HivePals logo. Likewise, if a Member keys in a name that is identical to yours, and obtains search results that include your profile, an inference can be made that your real name is a partial or full match with the name that was used as a search criteria.
    5. If you have chosen to be unlisted on eDirectory, you cannot be found using a name search as described in sub-paragraph (d) above. However, you can still be found, or your profile can still be viewed, by other Members in the following ways:
      1. You can provide people whom you have met in real life with your user name and Friend Code. By registering as a member, those people will be able to find your Profile online using the information provided. They do this using the "Find the Unlisted" search function accessed from MyHive.
      2. If, following upon (i), your profile is bookmarked to another Member's My Pals, it can be retrieved by that Member at any time using the shortcut access through My Pals.
      3. If you send/accept an invitation through the Websites' invitation system, your real first name will be disclosed to the other event participants.

  9. THIRD PARTY AND THIRD PARTY WEBSITES

  10. We employ third parties to perform functions on our behalf; examples include hosting or operating the Websites, sending e-mail and/or other communications, credit card identity verification and payment processing, etc. These third parties may have access to your personally identifiable information for the purpose of performing such functions on the Websites' behalf.
    1. HiveCo allows other companies, called third-party ad servers or ad networks, to serve advertisements within the Websites. These third-party ad servers or ad networks use technology to send, directly to your browser, the advertisements and links that appear on the Websites. They automatically receive your IP address when this happens. They may also use other technologies (such as cookies, JavaScript, or Web Beacons) to measure the effectiveness of their advertisements and to personalize the advertising content you see.
    2. The Websites do not provide any personally identifiable information to these third-party ad servers or ad networks without your consent or except as part of a specific program or feature for which you will have the ability to opt-in or opt-out. However, please note that if an advertiser asks the Websites to show an advertisement to a certain audience (for example, men ages 18-34) or audience segment (for example, men ages 18-24 who have viewed certain channels of content) and you respond to that advertisement, the advertiser or ad-server may conclude that you fit the description of the audience they are trying to reach. The advertiser may also use information regarding your use of the Websites, such as the number of times you viewed an ad (but not any personally identifiable information), to determine which ads to deliver to you.
    3. You should consult the respective privacy policies of these third-party ad servers or ad networks (see links below) for more information on their practices and for instructions on how to opt-out of certain practices. HivePals' Privacy Policy does not apply to, and we cannot control the activities of, such other advertisers or web sites. Any data obtained by third-party ad servers subsequently shared with HivePals is maintained and dealt with by HivePals in accordance with this privacy policy.
    4. The Websites currently use Google Adsense as its sole third-party ad server. Google Adsense uses a proprietary DoubleClick DART cookie to help serve up relevant ads on the Websites, based on your visit to the Websites and other sites on the Internet. You may opt out of the use of the DART cookie by visiting the Google ad and content network privacy policy. The following links provide more information:

    UPDATES OF OUR PRIVACY POLICY

  12. By using the Websites, you acknowledge your agreement to the terms of this Privacy Policy. From time to time, HiveCo may update this Privacy Policy, and in such instances will post the new policy on the Websites. Your continued use of the Websites after the posting of a revised policy signifies your acceptance to the revised policy. In this regard, the onus is on you to review this Privacy Policy regularly, to be updated on the changes.
